Philip Rathmer è nato a dusseldorf nel 1968, ed è lì che ha sviluppato il suo estro fotografico. Philipp ha vissuto a New York dal 1993 al 1995 dove ha lavorato anche come assistente di Hennes Schmid’s. Successivamente si è trasferito ad Amburgo, dove ha iniziato ad avere incarichi internazionali.
Oltre ad essersi occupato di editoria e di pubblicità, ha fotografato anche molte celebrità (Lady Gaga, Christoph Walz, Juliette Lewis, Jogi Löw, Luciano Pavarotti, Tim Mälzer, Daniel Brühl, Vanessa Mae, Nick Carter, Jay-Z, Michael and Ralf Schumacher, Nico Rosberg). In ogni scatto cerca di mettere in luce la natura e le peculiarità del soggetto fotografato e riesce a mantenere il proprio stile anche in lavori molto diversi.
Rathmer ama giocare con le luci e provare nuove tecniche.
Pholipp è un menbro del BFF( Bund Freischaffer Foto-Designer – Associazione di Foto-Designers freelance).
