FUJIFILM Glossary Series: Aperture

Check out this installment of Fujifilm’s Glossary Series for a peek into the importance of aperture and how it affects your photographs. Think of the aperture as you would an eye; the darker the environment, the more the aperture (or pupil, in this example) widens to let in more light, and the same goes for brighter situations, in which the aperture (or pupil) contracts. Aperture is measured on the f/stop scale; the lower the f/stop, the wider the aperture. Depth of field is also controlled by the aperture – the wider the opening, the shallower the depth of field, and vice versa.
