Physical intensity
Medium – High: Whilst all shooting locations are near the roadside and car parking, there are wet, boggy and undulating areas, uneven paths, slippery and icy rocks. A reasonable level of fitness and mobility is required as some of the days will require being on your feet for a long period.

Description
In 2024, Fujifilm will enter the land of fire and ice! Iceland is a country of extreme contrasts; it’s home to some of Europe’s biggest glaciers, as well as some of the world’s most active volcanoes.
It’s a photographer and traveller’s paradise with picturesque scenes at every twist and turn. You’ll have a chance see of some of the 10,000 waterfalls spread across the island and the golden circle area, where geothermal energy provides the heating for many of Iceland’s most popular and revered locations — including businesses, greenhouses and swimming pools. The Southeast is quintessential Iceland and plays host to Europe’s biggest glacier, Vatnajökull, and the world-famous black sand beaches on which the powerful waves of the North Atlantic break.
This 5 day residential workshop is centred around the skills and techniques needed for beginner and intermediate travel and landscape photographers.

You’re welcome to bring your own set-up, a selection of the latest Fujifilm GFX and X Series equipment, specifically suited to capture beautiful landscape and travel photography, will be available for you to try.

Accommodation
We will be staying at three beautiful hotels throughout our travels, all of which are along the south coast of Iceland.
Firstly, we will be staying at Hotel Kria in Vík which was newly built in 2018 and sits alongside the N1 ringroad in a picturesque coastal village. Next, we’re off to Hotel South Coast in Selfoss, which opened its doors in 2019 and is situated alongside the N1 ring road at the heart of the Icelandic south coast. Finally, we’ll end our exquisite photography holiday with the 4* boutique Hotel Berg in Keflavik, which was completely renovated in 2016 and is situated in the south western village of Keflavik. It’s conveniently only a stone’s throw from the airport and also offers free transfers to Keflavik airport after your stay.

Weather
A famous saying in Iceland is that “If you don’t like the weather, just wait 5 minutes”. The weather in Iceland is extremely changeable and unpredictable, it is so changeable that you can experience all four seasons in one hour, let alone one day!
Prepare for wet, windy and cold weather, with chances of snow and ice. There is a greater chance of snow in the winter.
Clothing for Iceland’s climate
The climate in Iceland is sub-arctic, meaning long and cold winters. The Gulfstream helps to keep temperatures around -3º Celsius during the winter months, but the weather can be harsh with strong winds and snow with the latter coming down sideways, leaving you cold and wet. It is important to get rid of cotton and jeans.
Instead, these essentials will keep you warm:
Waterproof and windproof winter jacket or parkas
Long underwear made from wool or synthetics
Warm waterproof and windproof gloves and hat
Waterproof and windproof outdoor trousers
Crampons or microspikes
Generic all-season basics:
An outer layer, windproof and waterproof jacket (your outer shell!)
A wool or fleece sweater middle layer
A thin wool or synthetic base layer
Headband or hat and gloves (even in summer)
Warm and waterproof hiking boots
Waterproof trousers
Warm socks made from synthetic or wool
Sunglasses
Iceland safety information
Beware and take care when exiting the group vehicle — high winds and large minibus doors don’t tend to mix. In climates like this, the large doors can act like a sail and can hurt you.
Always be aware of ground conditions. Terrain is uneven and undulating. Take care when walking, especially in difficult conditions.
Take waterproofs with you even if the weather is good.
Beware of weather warnings. Your Fujifilm workshop leader will be looking at the weather and conditions constantly and will be making decisions on locations and travel based on the safety of the workshop group.

First aid
Your Fujifilm workshop leaders are fully First Aid Trained for outdoor activities and will always carry a full Outdoors First Aid kit.
Terms & conditions
Once you have purchased a ticket, your place on the holiday will be reserved. If circumstances change and you need to cancel your place, please let us know six weeks before the final payment date and we will happily issue a full refund.
Places cancelled after this time are non-refundable. You need to be at least 18 years of age to take part in this event and a disclaimer form will need to be completed on the day in order to take part in the day’s activity.
