Hello, I’m Alvin, I’m a wedding and portrait photographer from Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

I was born on 29th April 1989, in Jayapura, Indonesia. To start my journey, I started developing my interest in photography in high school and began my career as a freelance photographer in 2007. In 2009, I built my first photo studio named Alvin Photography in Yogyakarta. Then, 5 years later, I expanded my business in Semarang. I’m also experienced in being a speaker for several photography classes and currently developing another educational photography business named Alvin Workshop. I’m one of the founders of Jogja Wedding Photographer Community. And since 2019, I’ve been certified as an official photographer in Indonesia. I started using Fujifilm in 2014 and joined the Fujifilm X-Photographer team since 2020.

Photography for me is about capturing a story. Therefore, I really love my work in wedding and portrait photography because there are so many stories that I can capture.

The concept of this photo shoot is Unity in Diversity. Taking stories from the many different cultures of Asia and putting them together in one photo.

The first concept is a photo shoot using a dress with Indian and Chinese elements in a Javanese historical building. And the second concept is a photo shoot using a yellow dress, as a symbol of Asian color, in the rice fields, as a symbol of rice which is the staple food of the majority of the population in Asia.

Why do I like the XF33mm lens? because the 33mm focal length in the APS-C format is the same as the 50mm focal length in the full frame camera format, . So I can get the most natural perspective. I can shoot portraits with this lens, and I still get a wide enough field of view to shoot environmental portraits.

Why do I prefer the 33mm focal length over 23mm or 16mm? because the 33mm focal length can provide a narrower depth of field, and also less distortion.

I really like shooting with bokeh, because with bokeh I can make an object look different. An object can appear to be more beautiful. That’s why I like lenses with large apertures.

Previously, Fujifilm already had the XF35mmF1.4 lens, this lens is one of the most favorite lenses for the X Series. The XF35mmF1.4 lens is loved for its good image quality and excellent bokeh character, but the XF35mmF1.4 lacks in terms of auto focus speed, chromatic aberration, and is not yet weather resistant.

And this time Fujifilm released a new lens to update the previous lens, namely the FUJINON XF33mmF1.4 R LM WR.

Image quality is the most important thing for a lens. I can get excellent color, micro contrast and resolution from this XF33mmF1.4 lens.v

In my opinion, the style of the photographer is influenced by the character of the lens.

This XF33mmF1.4 lens retains the bokeh character of its predecessor lens, the XF35mmF1.4. This lens has a special bokeh character. The character is more like an analog lens than a modern lens. And I really like the bokeh character of this lens.

In shooting weddings, of course, you need fast autofocus to be able to capture the moment. This lens has autofocus which is much faster and quieter than its predecessor lens. The tracking is also very accurate. So this lens is very reliable to capture the moment.

I often shoot in outdoor locations. Sometimes I have to take pictures in rain, dust, snow and other extreme weather conditions. This lens is weather resistant. So I can take pictures in any condition.

I like to take pictures in backlight conditions, and I also often take pictures of models/brides who wear white clothes. This condition is very prone to purple fringing. This lens has better quality than its predecessor. So I don’t have to worry anymore when shooting in backlight conditions.

Although slightly larger than the XF35mmF1.4 lens, the XF33mmF1.4 lens is still very light and compact, so it’s still very comfortable for me to take pictures all day.

With Fujfilm camera and this XF33mmF1.4 lens I can get image quality equivalent to or even better than fullframe cameras with a much smaller size.

If I can only bring 1 lens when shooting, I’ll bring the XF33mmF1.4 lens.
