Katerina Arvaniti (Greece)
My name is Katerina Arvaniti and I was born and raise in Athens Greece, where I still reside. My resolution to be involved in the Art of Photography started in 2000 when I decided to work with film photography and the dark room having by my side people acknowledged on the field. I fell in love with analog photography from day one but I was also captivated by the fascinating process of film development in the dark room where while I was struggling with ill-tempered film stock and chemicals I learned to value every single frame treating it the way it should be, like a precious and unique moment in time. I still haven’t got over the charm of film stock and I keep returning there just to be impressed all over again like the first time by the magical way the picture reveals itself under the red light.
I started working with digital photography few years later due to the reason that I had to have my photos available as soon as possible to be able to respond to the needs of professional level projects. A large number of digital cameras accompany me during this time till two years ago a beautiful X-T1 appeared in my life and stole my heart. With such small size and weight, combined with high-end performance, it became my best companion. This is the camera I now use to shoot professional work such as weddings and christenings to theatrical performances and personal projects including street photography which is my favorite genre.
Presently I have enrolled into the Greek School of Fine Arts in Athens in the Photography and History of Arts field. As a result of studying art and being exposed to the work of great photographers I came with two ideas for new projects and I started working immediately on them. The first one is concerned with the transitional stages of the human experience during lifetime and the second one is about the multi-cultural nature of my native city and how is been expressed by different national and religious cultures.
My feeling is that, with Fujifilm, I have found the means to directly transform my thoughts and explorations into solid images. It seems like my initial enthusiasm and inspiration has returned and I am free to express myself and my point of view for photography but also for life too. My kit at this point, apart from the X-T1 consist of the Fujinon 35mmF2 and XF18-55mmF2.8-4.
