FUJIFILM Pixel Shift Combiner

Windows Version: 1.4.0

Last Updated: 19.09.2023

Mac Version: 1.4.0

Last Updated: 19.09.2023

Overview

FUJIFILM offers PIXEL SHIFT MULTI SHOT feature for some cameras with in-body image stabilization(IBIS). In the PIXEL SHIFT MULTI SHOT mode, the camera takes a series of RAW images and by using IBIS, moves the image sensor to get a high-resolution and real color* image. The multiple images are then combined to create a Digital Negative (DNG) RAW file using the FUJIFILM Pixel Shift Combiner software. You can choose a combining type from “High resolution + Accurate color” and “Accurate color”.
FUJIFILM Pixel Shift Combiner also allows tethered shooting for PIXEL SHIFT MULTI SHOT photography. The combining feature is available separately from the tethered shooting feature.

* accurate color: As a pixel of an image sensor has one color filter from red, green or blue, we cannot detect the real color for the pixel. We need to interpolate the other colors from the surrounding pixel data for that pixel. This is called the demosaicing process. In case of PIXEL SHIFT MULTI SHOT photography, we can receive red, green and blue data for every pixel position. This means we receive real color information when using PIXEL SHIFT MULTI SHOT mode and the demosaicing process is not necessary.

Detail of the software update

Ver.1.4.0

The software update Ver.1.4.0 incorporates the following issue:

Applicable model for the "Pixel Shift Combiner" is added.

Applicable model : FUJIFILM GFX100 II

Ver.1.3.0

The software update Ver.1.3.0 incorporates the following issue:

Applicable model for the PixelShiftCombiner is added.

Applicable model : FUJIFILM X-H2, X-T5

Ver.1.2.0

The software update Ver.1.2.0 incorporates the following issues:

A new “Accurate color” option to produce 100MP image with no false colors is added, in addition to the existing function of generating ultra-high 400MP resolution images in Accurate color*.

*Generally, an image sensor records only one of three colors, red (R), green (G) or blue (B) within a pixel. The information about the other two colors is estimated and complemented based on data from surrounding pixels. The Pixel Shift Multi-Shot function automatically takes images while shifting the camera’s image sensor to record information about all three colors for each of its pixels, thereby allowing color reproduction that completely eliminates false colors (=Accurate color).

Function to automatically detect an error when images cannot be correctly combined due to camera shake, etc. that occurred during photo shooting is added. The ability to detect flawed images before the completion of image generation is expected to speed up photographers’ workflow.*

*This function does not detect flawed images at 100% accuracy.

Function to enables enlarged viewing of combined RAW images for checking details is added. This means users can visually check details of combined RAW images inside the Pixel Shift Combiner before processing them in RAW developing software. In other words, workflow steps up to checking combined images can be completed within the Pixel Shift Combiner.

Other operability is improved and some bugs are fixed.

Ver.1.1.0

The software update Ver.1.1.0 incorporates the following issues:

[Important notice]
In ver.1.1.0, the combining process doesn’t start automatically when the software starts. Press the “Run” button after it starts.

Improvement of operability.

(1) You can select “Run” and “Stop” of combining process. This is an improvement of operability for customers who are handling large capacity process like adding job.
(2) Display of Thumbnail images is added to the job list.
(3) Shooting condition and battery level can be confirmed on the tether shooting display.

Other performance and other operability are improved and some bugs are fixed.
