X-T5 x Antonio Faccilongo

Photography is the diary in which I write down my emotions and discover more about myself. That spirit of adventure that drives you to discover the world but also, in a sense, to go in search of yourself.

Every time I meet a new culture or discover a new land, a new challenge arises that forces me to improve myself and ask myself new questions. Sometimes this is not only an emotional challenge, but also a physical one. In fact, in my project on European forests I have to face the fatigue climbing the peaks of the mountains, the meteorological variability, dust, snow and wind. A territory that can often not be hospitable.

An important theme that highlights the impact of this problem on local populations and animals but also the effects of the resulting climate change. In particular, in this selection of images we see one of the most devastating effects of climate change, the “Vaia” storm, 4 years after the tragic event. This one night storm hit Italy, Austria and Slovenia with gusts of wind that exceeded 200km/h and felled 42 million trees.

With my photos, I want to take the viewers on a journey, transport them to the places where I took them, and make them feel the same emotions I felt while immersed in

nature. So, the quality of the images is crucial.

That’s why I use an X-T5 camera. Its 40-megapixel sensor and the fifth-generation X-Trans allow me to capture all the details and nuances of the environment in high definition. This feature is very important to me because, even more in this project which is designed to become primarily an exhibition and a book. Therefore it is essential that the file is rich in information to be able to create large photographic prints capable of sensitizing viewers and arousing an empathic reaction with nature.

Working in the mountains puts you in great effort to get to the right locations and you requires the use of equipment that is versatile and not heavy. The X-T5 is smaller and lighter than the previous model but at the same time it has improved a lot in terms of performance. Its great manageability and lightness allows me to work many hours in inaccessible places without feeling fatigue.

This forest photography project consists of alternating static situations, portraits, landscapes, still life, as well as dynamic actions. The Fujifilm X-T5 makes it possible to capture these scenes thanks to the quick execution of the external dials, which allow you to work harmoniously with both hands. A feature common to all the X-T that remains in this model as well and that continues to give the camera a great manual approach and that familiar feeling that allows me to free myself from technical rigidity and concentrate on the composition of the photos and the messages I want to convey to the people looking at my photos.

Another feature that photographers will love is the return to the 3-axis tilt LCD. An LCD that helps to position the camera even in extreme high or very low positions and without looking in the viewfinder, to find images with a strong visual impact.

In the mountains, the weather changes quickly, from strong sun to rain with a very strong temperature range between day and night. And often you are also forced to walk on dusty, muddy and wet ground. Being able to trust your equipment is essential and have a camera that is resistant to all weather, condition and the most extreme temperatures. The Fujifilm X-T5 is designed to withstand any condition.
