I’m Kuo-Chiao Lin, a photographer based in Taipei. I shoot mostly street photography because of my passion for humankind. I believe a photographer's talent lies in their ability to recognize the moment amidst thousands of others before it happens, and know immediately how to bring that moment to light. I enjoy searching and waiting in the street for the extraordinary details hidden in the ordinary surroundings. When I shoot street portraits I mostly look for candid shots with eye contact: capturing that eye contact at almost the exact moment the subjects spot me, right before they react to me pointing a camera at them. I love wandering the streets of large cities with the Fujifilm X system and feel so privileged to see beautiful stories unfold through my lens.
My shooting style requires a simple, low-key system to avoid unnecessary attention before I press the shutter, but that system needs to react as fast as possible in terms of functionality when I’m ready to click the shutter at the right moment. This is why I have chosen the Fujifilm X system for my work. The system not only delivers amazing image quality, but perfectly keeps a balance between functionality and simplicity. The Fujifilm X-T1 and X-T10, in particular, epitomize excellence in that regard when paired with a small lens so fast, sharp, and weather-resistant such as the XF35mmF2 R WR.
