GFX50S II Impression by Xiaoyi Zhang

I’m Zhang Xiaoyi, a portrait photographer.

I am very glad to shoot the new GFX50S II official samples together with Fujifilm once again.

We will bring the new GFX50S II to provide creative shooting for an exterior portrait in Xinjiang, with the vastest territory and most abundant and diversified scene. Please follow our pace to experience the perfect visual feast.

More than four years have passed since the emergence of GFX 50S at the beginning of 2017 up to now, and its upgraded version is ushered eventually today. The whole type completely follows the appearance and dimension of GFX100s, but the model mark is only added at the side of the body as a difference. Compared with the first generation of the 50s , the volume and weight of the body are reduced substantially, and the overall hand feeling has been identical to a DSLR camera. However, its core is still an anti-shaking medium-frame camera with top color image quality regardless of its small volume.

Our first shooting station was Taklimakan desert, the largest dessert in China.

To encounter the best light, the modeling team and models began to work at midnight, and the whole shooting team came to the shooting place at sunrise. The sunshine in the morning projected the beautiful shadow on the rolling dune. We created a suite of pink tears princess skirts on costume modeling, and we selected to take a candid capture under the purely natural light to shoot the overall elegance and dynamic. The focusing speed and tracking performance of GFX50S II were promoted compared with those of the first generation, so we could easily take a candid capture and continuous capture at a fast pace, and obtain the pictures we want within a short time.

Our second shooting station was Gobi Yardang landform in Lop Nur. The severe heat and fierce wind of south Xinjiang at noon of July increased a large difficulty in the shooting. We performed an “Ode to Gallantry” drama with difficulty in the fierce wind difficult to standard at the high temperature close to 40℃.

In the end, we finished the shooting today before being dried, and GFX50S II also successfully challenged the harsh shooting environment at a super-high temperature in the desert and gobi.

Our third shooting station was a piece of Populus euphratica forest sunk in sleep for thousand years. All kinds of strangely withered populus euphratica stood in the desert, just like the magic world in the film. The makeup team also created two kinds of very characteristic modeling makeups.

Perhaps to further increase the shooting difficulty, it rained in the desert throughout the year, but we only continued our creation in the rain. GFX50S II could still work without protection for 24h as the same as 100s last time, and the shooting in the rain for several hours was not completely suspended.

In the end, it slightly cleared up, and we also finished the shooting for another day through a multi-image stitching super panorama.

Our last shooting station was the beautiful prairie. The makeup team brought a ethnic-style modeling beautiful in colors to me, and the color that Fujifilm was proud of was also sufficiently revealed. I was very satisfied with the color, detail, and texture regardless of under natural light or light.

Xinjiang is so large that we can only give a hurried glance at the journey for several days; it is so beautiful that it is not enough to tell the praise and surprise in our eyes with more languages. A lot of beautiful pictures as well as our infinite visions and yearns for beautiful mountains and rivers of the motherland are kept in the transit GFX50S II creation trip, More Than Full Frame; More Than You Think.
