Ver.5.10

The firmware update Ver.5.10 from Ver.5.01 incorporates the following issue:

Camera performance used with the XF50mmF1.0 R WR is optimized.

The phenomenon is fixed that in a multiple-flash shooting where the EF-X500 is used as a commander, flashes in some groups sometimes don’t fire correctly. Also in case the EF-X500 is used as a commander and the EF-60 as a remote flash, upgrade the camera firmware to the latest version.

Enlarged and customizable indicators or information

The upgrade allows users to enlarge indicators and information in the viewfinder and/or LCD monitor. This upgrade will also enable users to customize the location of where the information is shown on the display.

Addition of “Flicker Reduction”

For enhancing the quality of indoor sports photography, the upgrade allows users to reduce flicker in pictures and the display when shooting under fluorescent lighting and other similar light sources.

Addition of “Select Folder” and “Create Folder”

Enable to choose the folder in which subsequent pictures will be stored. And also enable to enter a five-character folder name to create a new folder in which to store subsequent pictures.

Enhanced Phase Detection AF

Latest updates to the AF algorithm provide the following performance enhancements
1) The low-light limit for phase detection autofocus has been improved by approximately 1.5 stops from 0.5EV to -1.0EV, raising the precision and speed of autofocus in low-light environments.
2) The range at minimum aperture has been expanded from F8 to F11. For example, even when using the XF100-400mmF4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR with the tele converter XF2X TC WR, phase detection autofocus can now be used.
3) Major improvements have been made to the AF-C performance while operating the zoom, which provides major benefits when shooting sports and other scenarios in which the subjects moves unpredictably.
4) Finely-detailed surface textures of wild birds and wild animals can now be captured at high speed and with high precision as a result of improvement in phase detection autofocus.

A phenomenon of freeze is fixed. It will occur in case you try to shoot pictures when all the three settings below are set at the same time after the firmware has been upgraded to version 4.00.

Addition of 4K video mode (excluding HDMI out)

The update adds 4K video using the X Series’ famous Film Simulation modes. You can input audio from an external microphone. (Excluding HDMI output for recording)

Support for tether shooting via USB or Wi-Fi

After connecting a camera to a computer, the compatible software will enable users to transfer images taken with the camera to the computer and save them in a specified folder, or to control the camera from the computer.
To use the Tether shooting by wireless communication, one of the PC application software below and additional setting are required. For detail of the setting, refer to the setting manual.

New AF tracking algorithm for moving subject

Thanks to the newly developed image recognition algorithm, the update enhances AF-C to track moving subjects twice as fast as previous firmware. In addition, the update also enhances tracking to be able to capture up to 50% smaller moving subjects than before.

Improve radio flash controller usability

The upgrade allows users to shoot with compatible third party studio flash in high speed sync. or TTL mode via their radio controllers.

Support for backup/restore of camera settings via FUJIFILM X Acquire

Once connecting a camera to a computer via USB cable, the “FUJIFILM X Acquire” allows users to backup/restore camera settings to/from a file. Copying all camera settings from one camera to another is available.

RGB histogram display and highlight warning

If you press the function button allocated to the histogram, RGB histogram and highlight warning (High brightness portion will blink.)are displayed.

Re-start of AF function during a movie shooting

AF function can be done again by pressing the shutter button halfway during a movie shooting.

The phenomenon is fixed that in rare cases, a freeze could occur during repeated CH (continuous high speed) shooting and so on.

The phenomenon is fixed that in the MF mode, repeated halfway shutter pressing can shift the focus point under a specific exposure condition.

Once connecting a camera to a computer via USB cable, the “FUJIFILM X Acquire” allows users to backup/restore camera settings to/from a file. With “FUJIFILM X Acquire” (ver.1.7 or newer), CUSTOM REGISTRATION/EDIT settings are also stored and read.

Options of "-6" and "-7" are added in the EVF BRIGHTNESS setting.

With the additional options, even in an extremely low-light condition, the brightness of the EVF does not distract you from shooting.

Shooting RAW in Bracketing and Advanced Filters

The update enables you to use the RAW format when shooting not only in AE Bracketing but also in other Bracketing modes (ISO, Dynamic Range, White Balance, Film Simulations) and also in Advanced Filter modes.

Extended ISO 125 and 160 selectable

The update adds ISO125 and ISO160 to extended ISO levels available.

Programmable long exposure of up to 15 minutes

Long exposure in the T mode currently goes only up to 30 seconds. The update will allow users to extend it up to 15 minutes.

"AUTO" setting added for the minimum shutter speed in the ISO Auto setting

The update adds an AUTO option for the minimum shutter speed in the ISO Auto setting, that allows the camera to automatically define the minimum shutter speed according to the focal length of the lens attached.

Faster "Face Detection AF"

The update enables the use of Phase Detection AF for faster performance in Face Detection AF.

Improved in-focus indication in the AF-C mode

The update reduces focus hunting in the AF-C mode, making it easier to track a subject.

Addition of a smaller Focus Point size in Single Point AF

The update adds a smaller Focus Point size in Single Point AF, bringing the total number of available sizes to six. The new smallest size facilitates pin-point focusing.

Addition of "AF Point Display"

With the update, you can choose to have AF Points constantly displayed in Zone AF and Wide / Tracking AF, making it easier to track a subject.

Change of focus frame position while enlarging it

The update allows you to move the position of focus frame while enlarging it in Single Point in the AF-S mode or in the Manual Focus.

Addition of "Eye Sensor + LCD Image Display" in the View Mode

The update gives the “Eye Sensor + LCD Image Display” option in the View Mode that allows you to shoot through the viewfinder and check images on the LCD, just as you would with an SLR.

Shorter EVF display time-lag

The update shortens EVF display time-lag in the AF-C mode so that you will not miss a photo opportunity.

Name Custom Settings

The update allows you to assign a specific name to Custom Settings 1 – 7.

Copyright information in EXIF data

The update allows you to register the photographer’s name and the copyright holder’s name in advance so that the camera automatically adds the information to EXIF data for each image.

The update enables you to record 30-second “Voice Memo” clips in the Playback mode.

Extended AE Bracketing

With the update, you can have the “Shoot Without Card” mode turned OFF so that the camera cannot shoot when there is no SD card inserted.

The NUMBER OF THE FOCUS POINT has incerased.(*)

The options available are 91 POINTS(7×13) and 325 POINTS(13×25) on the NUMBER OF THE FOCUS POINT of the AF/MF SETTING in the Shooting Menu.

Improvement of phase detection AF accuracy.

By employing the new AF algorithm used in the X-T2, the AF accuracy has been improved.

AF tracking function has been improved when CONTINUOUS L in the AF-C mode.

In AF-C mode, AE function will work while pressing the shutter button halfway.

AF tracking function works while CONTINUOUS shooting in the AF-C mode with the Electronic Shutter.

AF tracking function works while CONTINUOUS H shooting in the AF-C mode instead of zone AF.

STILL IMAGE(single frame shooting) is available when CONTINUOUS L in the AF-C mode.

The focus point of Eye Detection AF has been changed to the eye closer to the camera.

Compatibility with the Shoe Mount Flash EF-X500.(*)

Additional functions like the multi-flash lighting, high-speed flash sync and so on can be used with the EF-X500.
Accordingly, the FLASH SETTING and the Shooting Menu is dramatically changed.

The items that can be assigned to the Quick Menu have changed.(*)

FLASH FUNCTION SETTINGS and FLASH COMPENSATION have been added due to the compatibility with the Shoe Mount Flash EF-X500.

The roles that can be assigned to the Function buttons have changed.(*)

Addition of AUTO POWER SAVE.(*)

AUTO POWER SAVE option has been added to the POWER MANAGEMENT of the Setup Menu. Select ON to save the power consumption and make the battery life longer.

Addition of setting time in AUTO POWER OFF.(*)

15 SEC, 30 SEC and 1 MIN have been added to the AUTO POWER OFF of the POWER MANAGEMENT in the Setup Menu.

S.S OPERATION option has been added to BUTTON/DIAL SETTING in the Setup Menu.(*)

Select OFF to disable the shutter-speed fine-tuning using the command dials.

Change of the CORRECTED AF FRAME in the OVF.(*)

Specification of the CORRECTED AF FRAME of AF/MF SETTING in the Shooting Menu has been changed.
·OFF:The frame moves according to parallax to show the focus point.
·ON:The CORRECTED AF FRAME in the OVF is fixed on the recommended value described in the Owner’s manual. If the minimum focus range of the attached lens is greater than the recommended value, the frame is displayed on the position of the minimum focus range.
*Upgrade the firmware of the lenses after the firmware of the camera is upgraded.

  4. Put the memory card with the firmware in the camera and update it.

If firmware updating fails, the camera may no longer operate correctly in some cases. Carefully read the notes provided here*Always use the fully-charged battery when updating the firmware as a basic manner. Never turn the camera off or attempt to use any of the camera controls while the firmware is being overwritten.

  • You can update the firmware from old version directly to the latest one.
  • Firmware updating requires approximately 5 minutes.(maximum)
  • Once the firmware has been updated, some data of the previous version cannot be restored.
  • Please check here if you encounter any problems.
