FUJIFILM X100VI: Key Features Explained

Learn how FUJIFILM X100VI’s specifications can unlock new potential in your image-making process

FUJIFILM X100VI marks an exciting, new era for the popular fixed-lens lineup. The camera builds upon the functionality users have come to know and love, with technology that’s never been seen within the X100 branch of X Series’ family tree.

In this article, you can view X100VI’s headline features, and contrast the camera with its predecessor in an X100VI vs X100V comparison.

X100VI Sensor and Processor

X100VI sees the addition of Fujifilm’s back-side illuminated X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor, offering 40.2 megapixels. Notable benefits include greatly detailed imagery, an improved pixel structure designed to receive light more efficiently, a standard lowest sensitivity of ISO 125, and 6.2K/30p 4:2:2 10-bit internal video recording. X100VI’s fixed FUJINON 23mmF2 lens is capable of high optical resolving to match the sensor.

The camera’s sensor is supplemented by the rapid power of X-Processor 5. With this, X100VI offers improved performance and new functions, including autofocus (AF) with AI-based subject detection. A range of subjects can be selected for reliable recognition and tracking, even in challenging conditions.

X100VI In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS)

X100VI houses a five-axis IBIS system providing up to 6.0 stops of benefit, while maintaining a compact form factor. Internal sensors work to detect camera shake, minimizing sensor vibrations across vertical, horizontal, roll, pitch, and yaw planes.

X100VI Digital Teleconverter and Internal ND

X100VI is designed to be as versatile as possible. As such, the camera retains Digital Teleconverter and Internal ND functions, like those found on X100V.

The Digital Teleconverter capitalizes on the camera’s significant 40.2-megapixel resolution. Factors of 1.4x and 2x conversion can be applied to X100VI’s fixed 23mm focal length by way of high-quality digital crop. Approximate 20-megapixel stills can be created at an effective 32mm focal length, and at an effective 46mm images retain approximately 10 megapixels of resolution. Focal length conversion lens attachments are also available. WCL-X100 II widens the field of view by multiplying standard focal length by approximately 0.8x, while TCL-X100 II extends it by approximately 1.4x.

To achieve faster apertures or longer shutter speeds in bright conditions, the Internal ND function reduces exposure by four stops, performing as a physical, lens-attached neutral density filter would.

X100VI Viewfinder

X100VI features Fujifilm’s Advanced Hybrid Viewfinder, allowing users to switch between optical (OVF) and electronic (EVF) options. The camera’s EVF is designed around a high-resolution, approximately 3.69 million dot OLED panel.

Using the Advanced Hybrid Viewfinder, users can enter an Electronic Range Finder (ERF) mode, placing a small EVF within the OVF. A scene is viewed optically, with a partial electronic area displaying a magnified view of the focus point. This can also be used to view a preview of your image for immediate review.

X100VI Frame.io Camera to Cloud

X100VI is the first X Series camera to offer native Frame.io Camera to Cloud compatibility. Without the use of an additional grip, the camera can send files directly to the cloud – wirelessly and immediately. Photos and videos can be stored, shared, and collaborated upon like never before. All that’s required is X100VI, an internet connection, and a Frame.io account.
