Giulio Meliani’s Filmmaking Challenge

Giulio Meliani
Giulio Meliani is a Los Angeles-based Brazilian-American filmmaker. Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Giulio attended art school where he discovered his passion for image-making and storytelling. After moving to Los Angeles in 2006, he completed his photography education at Santa Monica College in 2010 and began pursuing filmmaking assisting for commercial productions in LA. In 2012, Giulio started his own production company Joy Per Second where he is a director, DP, editor, and colorist for commercials, music videos, and mini-documentaries as well as a professional photographer.

A creative of Giulio’s talents couldn’t be better placed than his home of Los Angeles, California. It’s where movie magic happens – and in this filmmaker’s decade of experience, the great city has been the backdrop to narrative film, documentary work, music videos, and more. Throughout it all, Giulio has used his trusted X Series and GFX System tools, and proudly remains a FUJIFILM Creator to this day.
Like others at the top of their game, Giulio has mastered the gamut of filmmaking skills, though there are few techniques he values more than movement. It’s the distinct feature of his video work above all else, and he relishes the opportunity to turn practical necessity into an impactful viewer experience. His Create With Me challenge is all about urging you to do the same.
To keep things simple, Giulio has laid out three distinct functions of camera movement. He encourages filmmakers to set the scene, build emotion using visual language, and follow a subject. There’s endless creative potential to play with here. Try to think outside the box, like Giulio, to produce some arresting results.
