Lindsey Appolis (South Africa)

Lindsey Appolis is a self-taught photographer hailing from Cape Town, South Africa. His work extends into film, advertising, street photography, performance and fine art, and is largely influenced by the city that he grew up in – beautiful, colourful and multi-layered Cape Town.

Appolis’s photographic journey began in 2009 on the streets of Bangkok while on holiday with his family. Mesmerized by the textures and shadows of the city, he felt compelled to capture its juxtaposition and from here discovered his eye for composition.

After a long career in financial services, he decided to quit the corporate world and follow what was clearly his passion. The journey has been a colourful one, filled with adventures from Tanzania to Japan, and of course in his homeland South Africa. To date Appolis has exhibited both collectively and as a solo artist, most notably Aware in 2017 and Memories of Mitchells Plain in 2018, both at the Youngblood Art Gallery, Cape Town.

He is also a stills production photographer with several prestigious South African feature films under his belt, namely Noem My Skollie South Africa’s entry into the 2017 Academy Awards; The Forgiven, Nommer 37; The Ellen Pakkies Story and most recently the Netflix series Blood and Water.
