Personalising your camera

Many aspects of the X-T200 can be customised to suit your preferences, such as its controls, displays and shooting modes.

Fn function button and Touch Controls

The camera’s two top-plate Fn buttons, Fn dial and two touchscreen Touch Controls can be customised to perform different tasks.

❮ ❯
  • Press MENU OK and scroll down to the SET UP menu tab.
  • Choose BUTTON/DIAL SETTING > FUNCTION (Fn) SETTING and press MENU OK.
  • Choose each of the function controls in turn, pressing MENU OK to customise its role.
  • When you’re done, press DISP BACK three times to return to shooting mode.

Customising viewfinder and viewscreen information

You can choose what information the X-T200 shows on its rear screen and in its viewfinder when you’re shooting photos and video.

❮ ❯
  • Press MENU OK and scroll down to the SET UP menu tab.
  • Choose SCREEN SET-UP > DISP. CUSTOM SETTING and press MENU OK.
  • Press MENU OK to tick the information you want to show. Untick anything you want hidden.
  • When you’re done, press DISP BACK three times to return to shooting mode.

Customising the Q Menu

The Q Menu gives you information at a glance and quick access to camera settings. You can also change what’s on the Q Menu screen to suit your way of working.

❮ ❯
  • Press MENU OK and scroll down to the SET UP menu tab.
  • Choose BUTTON/DIAL SETTING > EDIT/SAVE QUICK MENU and press MENU OK.
  • Use the focus lever to navigate to the menu item you want to customise and press MENU OK.
  • Find the function you’d like to appear in this menu location and press MENU OK.
  • Repeat the above steps for each menu location you want to change. Press DISP BACK to finish.

Customising Film Simulation modes

You’ve probably discovered your camera’s Film Simulation modes by now, but did you know you can customise these to suit your own tastes?

❮ ❯
  • Tap the Q icon on the touchscreen to display the Q Menu.
  • Adjust highlights, shadows and colour saturation with the H Tone, S Tone and Color options using the front command dial.

Focusing modes

Choosing an AF mode

When looking for subjects to focus on, your X-T200 can use small AF points, larger AF zones or the whole AF area at once. To change this AF mode:

❮ ❯
  • Press MENU OK and scroll to the AF/MF SETTING menu tab.
  • Choose AF MODE and select from: SINGLE POINT, ZONE or WIDE TRACKING.
  • Or select the ALL option to be able to cycle through these modes seamlessly as you vary the focus point/zone’s size (see below). You can also access the AF mode selection from the camera’s Q Menu.

Focus point place and size

The size of the active focusing point or zone used by your X-T200 can be changed in size and moved around the frame. In the camera’s Q Menu, choose from Single Point (highly selective), Zone (for erratically moving subjects) and Wide/Tracking (uses the whole frame). (This is only available in P, A, S and M shooting modes.)

❮ ❯

To move the active focus point or zone:

  • Move the focus lever up, down, left or right.
  • Or tap the touchscreen where you’d like the active AF point/zone to be.
❮ ❯

To change the size of the active focus point or zone:

  •  Press MENU OK button and navigate to the AF/MF SETTING menu tab. Choose FOCUS AREA.
  • You’ll see a grid of focus points, which you can move around with the focus lever as normal.
  • You can also use the rear control dial to change the size of the focus point or zone (there are six points and three zones to choose from).
  • With the ALL AF mode selected (see above) you’ll be able to use the rear control dial to move from the smallest single AF Point, through the three zone sizes, to the WIDE/AREA setting in one go.

Making the most of manual focus

When you’re focusing manually, the X-T200 offers all kinds of focusing aids to help you nail critical focus.

❮ ❯
  • Put the camera in M focus mode by tapping the focus mode icon on the camera’s touchscreen (it will say AF-S or AF-C).
  • To select Focus Peaking, where the area in focus is highlighted in a colour of your choice, press MENU OK, navigate to the second page of the AF/MF SETTING menu and choose MF ASSIST. Then pick FOCUS PEAK HIGHLIGHT and select a colour (only available in P, A, S and M shooting modes).
  • To switch on Focus Check (where a central portion of the scene is magnified when you begin to focus manually), press MENU OK and scroll to the second page of the AF/MF SETTING menu. Choose FOCUS CHECK > ON.

Switch on AF+MF from the SHOOTING MENU > AF/MF SETTING and you’ll be able to focus manually just by turning the lens focus barrel – no change of focus mode necessary.

Super selfies

You can shoot great selfies with your X-T200, and the camera’s Portrait Enhancer and Face Detection AF features will ensure you always look your best.

❮ ❯
  • Pull out the camera’s touchscreen to the side so it faces the same direction as the lens; you’ll notice that the image is flipped, to help you compose more intuitively.
  • If the camera is in SR+ AUTO shooting mode, you’ll notice the PORTRAIT ENHANCER button in the top-right corner of the touch menu display. Tap this and move the slider to adjust how much Portrait Enhancer effect is applied.
  • When you’re shooting selfies in SR+ AUTO mode, Face Detection autofocus will operate automatically. In other shooting modes, you can activate this from AF/MF SETTING menu tab by going to the FACE/EYE DETECTION option.

Shooting video

Picking the right settings

The first thing to decide is which resolution and frame rate settings to use. You’ll find these options in the camera’s MOVIE SETTING menu tab. Choose the MOVIE MODE option to change frame rate and resolution.

❮ ❯
  • 4K/29.97p gives the best resolution and clarity on the X-T200.
  • Full HD (FHD) options still provide a good level of resolution, but at higher frame rates, which helps capture movement more fluidly.
  • HD options offer less resolution, but files are smaller so you can fit more footage on your memory card.
  • When it comes to frame rate, 24p is fine for most normal applications. Footage shot at frame rates of 50p or 59.94p captures motion more smoothly.

Did you know that 25p and 59.94p frame rates are best for European countries, while 30p and 60p are more suited to the US? This is because of the different frequencies of mains electricity in these territories, which can cause lights to flicker slightly at 50Hz or 60Hz, respectively.

Exposure settings for cinematic video

Here’s a set of standard settings you can use in manual (M) shooting mode that will create great-looking, cinematic-style video.

  • Choose a frame rate – 24fps is a standard used in the movie industry and has a very top-end look and feel.
  • Select a shutter speed that is roughly double the frame rate you’re using, so each frame is exposed for 50% of the time. For example, if you’re shooting at 24fps, pick a shutter speed of 1/50 sec.
  • Select the aperture you need for the required depth-of-field.
  • Adjust the camera’s ISO sensitivity to get the proper exposure.
❮ ❯

Continuous focusing with video section

Select AF-C using the Focus Mode Selector switch and the X-T200 will adjust focusing as you film, tracking people around the frame if face detection is switched on. You can turn this on from the AF/MF SETTING > FACE/EYE DETECTION SETTING menu. (You can also assign this to the Q Menu.) You can choose from two focus areas: MULTI, which uses the whole frame, and AREA, which lets you be more selective. Find this in MOVIE SETTING > MOVIE AF MODE.

❮ ❯

Using the HDR Movie Mode

The X-T200 features an HDR Movie Mode, which captures greater levels of detail in highlights and shadow areas.

  • Press MENU OK button and navigate to the MOVIE SETTING menu.
  • Choose HDR MOVIE MODE and select your frame rate, based on our recommendations above.

Digital Gimbal and Digital Image Stabiliser

These two features on the X-T200 help you to create smooth handheld video footage. While both essentially perform the same purpose, the Digital Gimbal crops footage and is more powerful than the Digital Image Stabiliser.

❮ ❯
  • Press MENU OK button and navigate to the MOVIE SETTING menu.
  • Choose DIGITAL GIMBAL or DIGITAL IMAGE STABILIZER, then press MENU OK.
  • Select ON/OFF as required.

The Digital Gimbal cannot be used with 4K video capture. Neither the Digital Gimbal nor the Digital Image Stabiliser are available in the HDR Movie Mode.

Connecting to your smart device

Your X-T200 can communicate wirelessly with your smartphone or tablet computer via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, so you can transfer pictures to your device where they can be edited and shared with friends and followers online. You can also use your smart device to shoot remotely, controlling the camera and even look at what the camera sees with remote live view.

❮ ❯

Linking the camera and device using Bluetooth

  • Install the free FUJIFILM Camera Remote app on your iOS or Android device.
  • Turn on the camera, press MENU OK and navigate to the SET UP menu. Choose CONNECTION SETTING > Bluetooth SETTINGS > PAIRING REGISTRATION. The camera will begin searching for your device.
  • In the FUJIFILM Camera Remote app, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the pairing process. You may need to tap the Camera List menu in the top-left of the screen if you already have another camera paired.
❮ ❯

Transferring images to your device

  • Press the PLAY button to playback images on your camera’s screen.
  • Now press MENU OK and scroll down to IMAGE TRANSFER ORDER.
  • Choose SELECT FRAMES and page through the images. Press OK to tag those that you’d like to transfer to your paired device.
  • The images will begin to transfer when you exit by pressing DISP. BACK or turn off the camera.

If your device is already connected to a Wi-Fi network, the app may ask to switch to the camera’s own Wi-Fi before transfer can begin.

❮ ❯

Remote shooting and control

  • Launch the Camera Remote app from your smart device and tap the camera name to connect.
  • Tap the Live view shooting option to begin controlling the X-T200.

If your device is already connected to a Wi-Fi network, the app may ask to switch to the camera’s own Wi-Fi before remote shooting can begin.
