You’re welcome to bring your own set-up, although a selection of the latest Fujifilm cameras and lenses will be available on the day. You can also borrow tripods and Kase filters if you’re travelling light. Please let us know if there is anything in particular you’d like to try out, and we’ll try our very best to accommodate you. If you’d prefer to have your own selected equipment, you can arrange a free, 48-hour Try Before You Buy loan in advance.
On the day
This Fujifilm Photowalk gives enthusiasts the opportunity to create striking images of York at night. After an introduction and some expert photography advice, Carol will guide you through York’s ancient streets so you can put what you’ve learnt into practice.
You’ll have the opportunity to explore and photograph York’s Medieval city walls, York Minster Cathedral, the Shambles market, and more impressive attractions.
Throughout the day and evening, you’ll receive different photo briefs to help you experiment with camera settings and photographic techniques.
What you will learn
Following an initial refresh on basic camera settings, Carol will move on to explaining valuable exposure techniques. You’ll look at exposure settings, composition, and how to manipulate the highlights and shadows.
She’ll offer street photography and black-and-white photography tips you can try out on the Photowalk and discuss how to anticipate a compelling story and freeze the moment in time. All of this will help you get the most out of your York Photowalk.
As ever, light and exposure are crucial, so these topics will receive due time and attention as the day progresses. As nightfall hits, Carol will look at how you can experiment with long exposures and light trails to make a typical street scene a little different.
