Overview & Kit
David’s GFX100S is the pivotal creative tool bringing his visions to life. GFX50S II bodies and a variety of lenses will be available during the workshop, so you can embrace the same technology as the professionals. David will explain how he utilises the system, guiding you through how to get the most from the incredible Large Format sensor.
You’ll learn about David’s methods, as he breaks down his approach. This includes preparation, creation of plates and more. There are a host of techniques and technical functions at play here. In-built focus stacking is just one of many crucial settings David implements. As ever, lighting is also key, so you’ll receive professional insight into exposure, alongside flash and continuous sources – covering the benefits and appropriate uses of each.
Photographic skill is only one half of the equation in the world of commercial still life. While it’s certainly a simple passion for some, many will wish to enter the profession. For those interested in the business aspect, David will take a deep-dive into his own experience. To date, he’s completed projects for some of the biggest brands around the globe. By the end of the workshop, you may be ready to start following in his footsteps.

What you will learn
The very best still life and product photography is a fine balance between vision and execution. The latter requires plenty of knowledge and skill. In sharing his personal practices, David will teach you how to set up the GFX System for optimal use. You’ll be able to seamlessly incorporate functions into your photography, such as focus stacking.
You’ll also learn how to arrange, light and expose for perfect plate photos. In David’s workflow, these often serve as the backbone of the final result. Finally, you’ll be shown how to create a dynamic and engaging still life display. This is where many commercial creatives put their own personal stamp on a subject – but you have to learn the rules, in order to later bend them.
