Til Jentzsch (Switzerland)

My name is Til Jentzsch and I’m a freelance music photographer. I currently live in Bern, Switzerland.

I’ve photographed for nearly 30 years. Originally my interest was in sports photography when I was a teenager, using analog cameras and developing pictures in the dark (bath) room.

Now my work is all about music. It is a mixture of live concerts, promotional shootings and going with bands on tour. My main focus is on artists / bands from German speaking countries to Scandinavia and Finland. I personally think that these musicians bring the best out of themselves on stage and I’m trying to capture that creative madness with my camera. For me that’s the best part of music photography: seeing, showing & sharing emotions.

I shoot exclusively with the FUJIFILM. I have started with the FUJIFILM X-T1 back in 2014, switched to the FUJIFILM X-T2 in 2016, shot with the FUJIFILM X-H1 in the beginning of 2018 and now use the FUJIFILM X-T3.

There are a couple of reasons, why I sold all my DSLR equipment and went mirrorless. With my photography I try to capture special moments and thanks to the bright electronic viewfinder I see exactly how the image will look later. And because of the X-Trans sensor a lot of the images can be used straight out of the camera, reducing my editing workflow to a minimum.

Another reason is weight of the FUJIFILM system. DSLRs are rather heavy and so are the lenses. After changing to the FUJIFILM not only got my camera bag lighter, but it got smaller as well, and after a day of shooting my back doesn’t complain anymore. In addition I carry my camera more often with me, even on private occasions.

Along with the weight goes the size of the Fujifilm camera. All my cameras are now rather small compared to my previous DSLR, it becomes more a part of me, almost invisible. This makes it much easier to become unnoticed when taking pictures, especially in the backstage area, creating more closeness between my subjects and myself.

The overall combination of X-Trans sensor, the high quality of the FUJINON XF lenses, especially the sharpness with wide open aperture, and the low light performance makes the FUJIFILM X-T1, X-T2 and X-H1 the best cameras I have used and the FUJIFILM X-T3 I can use for my music photography.

In particular in the FUJIFILM X-T3 you can see and feel the evolution of the whole X Series. The AF performance, even with older lenses, is now really fast and exact. Shooting in low light, which is crucial for my work, has as well improved over the years and is now in pair with other systems.

This is of course all to updating the firmware constantly, even adding new features and functions to the existing cameras. With this, Fujifilm shows its dedication and determination to the X System and to its users as well.
