X30 EVF

State-Of-The-Art Viewfinder

Unlike the X10 and the X20, the X30 is equipped with a high performance electronic viewfinder that shows a 100% field of view. The camera also features a control ring that makes it easier to control functions such as focusing and setting the aperture. With the addition of the control ring to the lens barrel, which is already equipped with a zoom ring, there was a concern that it might lead to a more complicated operation. To overcome this, we made each ring a different diameter and created a stepped design so the user can easily operate both rings with the camera up to their eye.

The X30 features a contoured rubber grip to help the photographer maintain a firm hold on the camera while looking through the viewfinder and operating the rings. The exact shape of the grip was optimized through the repeated examination of full-size prototypes created with a high-precision 3-D printer.

Design embodying greater precision

X30 Design embodying greater precision

Fujifilm has overhauled the design of the X20 by giving the X30 a sleek look with prominent edges for a sharper, more solid feel. We chose a design with a cut metal style that embodies the camera's precision as a highly advanced optical instrument and emphasizes that it represents a significant evolution from previous models. For example, the two vertical lines on the front give a compact feel and are intended to harmonize the shape of the tilting LCD panel with the camera body. With all X-Series models, Fujifilm takes great care to ensure they look and feel like a camera, not just an electronic instrument.

A compact design created using experience from previous models

Although the X30 was expected to be larger than its predecessors due to the additional features, Fujifilm wanted the camera to be the same size as the X20. As a result of our experience creating compact system cameras such as the X-M1 and the X-T1, the design team met their targets even though the X30 battery is roughly twice the size of that in the X20. When designing a camera, the first objective is always to ensure that the planned design is not compromised. When the camera's outer covering has been modified to give a slimmer overall appearance, we optimized the internal structure to fit this exterior. Throughout the development process, our teams responsible for external design, interior structure, development and planning work closely together, a process that resulted in this well-balanced product.
