Ben Cherry Nature X-Photographer – How I use the X Series for Nature Photography

In Ben’s final video he looks at the whole of the X Series system for nature photography. With a particular emphasis on what lenses he takes along with the X-T2 when covering assignments. He highlights the workhorse lenses – XF16-55mmF2.8 and XF50-140mmF2.8 for their image quality and versatility. With a focal range of 16-400mm, Ben explains how different lenses encourage different shots, like the XF16mmF1.4 and XF56mmF1.2 which create unique photos through their wide apertures.

Road to the wild – the 24mm equivalent focal length is my favourite for wide, landscape images. I find that this focal length is very adaptable, from expansive views to intimate close ups within a scene, this versatility is encouraged by the brilliant XF16mmF1.4.

Superb image quality across a very handy focal range, the XF16-55mmF2.8 is the all-purpose standard zoom. If I were only able to carry two lenses, this would be one of them.

The lens that has probably produced the majority of my favorite images with the X Series, the XF50-140mmF2.8. Simply fantastic for a variety of genres and situations, this was my go-to lens when exploring rainforests, a telephoto zoom with a constant F2.8 aperture for the gloomy conditions.

Reach was always a limiting factor with my system until the XF100-400mmF4.5-5.6 became available. With alert wildlife like this red deer it made all the difference being able to photograph from a safe distance. The OIS on this lens is truly remarkable, having been able to get sharp results handheld at 1/8sec at 400mm! EXIF X-Pro2, XF100-400mmF4.5-5.6, 400mm, F8, ISO 800, 1/500, Velvia
The telezoom just works so well with the X-T2, with the grip attached it is a brilliantly balanced set up. This combination utilizes the key factors from both the lens and body to create a superb wildlife combo.
