Rita Puig-Serra: “Why The Sea Is Blue”
For Barcelona-based photographer Rita Puig-Serra, photography is a way to explore what intrigues, moves, or challenges her. She has transformed her questions into images, and with each project, she seeks to turn them into books. To her, the printed format is the natural home for her photographic series—a way to give them closure and meaning.
While her personal journey has been centered on artistic projects, she has also built a career in commercial photography. Her training began with an analog camera, shooting exclusively on film for years. However, upon entering the commercial world, she discovered the possibilities of digital photography. That journey led her to Fujifilm’s GFX system, which became an ideal tool for her work. In her latest project, Puig-Serra set out to answer a simple yet profound question: “Why The Sea Is Blue” This inquiry serves as the starting point for a series that she envisions as a book—one where she explores different aspects of nature and the environment, all sparked by the curiosity of her son, Riu. More than a structured project with defined boundaries, it is an open-ended exploration. For the first time, she shifts her gaze outward, focusing on the external world rather than introspection.
