Jonas Dyhr Rask (1980) is a General Practitioner of Medicine, G.P. M.D. from the university of Aarhus with a burning passion for the photographic medium.
His photographic career started in 2008 when he got his first Canon DSLR. Since then he has ventured into film photography of various formats, as well as the FUJIFILM X-System. His father being a wedding photographer, he grew up around cameras.
His photographic inspiration comes from the interplay between humans and their surroundings. Drawing directly from his degree in medicine, his type of street photography seeks to isolate the human element and direct focus towards it, using the cityscape as a stark material contrast. He brings this documentary street photography style to his contract photography work, where he functions as a documentary wedding photographer, as well as a childrens portrait photographer.
Using only available natural light, and using a candid approach, he seeks to document true life as it happens on the streets of Denmark without interfering or intervening.
Photographing mostly using high contrast black and white, he seeks to eliminate colors as a distraction to the subject and scenery, trying to bring story and emotion to the viewer.
As a candid style street photographer the X-T1, X-Pro1 and X100s gives me a very discrete setup for minimising my contact with the scene. These cameras are small and incredibly quiet. They certainly look and feel amazing in hand and in use, and have proven very rugged for everyday street photography as well as wedding photography
The fantastic X-Trans sensor in the X-Pro1 and X-T1 gives me amazing dynamic range and sharpness for use in my black and white images. The XF lenses delivers incredible sharpness and pleasing bokeh when shot wide open which is how I obtain my type of portraiture orientated street photography. I especially enjoy the standard focal lengths provided by the XF 23mm f/1.4, XF 35mm f/1.4 and the amazing XF 56mm f/1.2.
The X100s gives me complete portability combined with world class image quality. It is a camera that I never leave home without. Its leaf shutter and its brilliant 23mm lens makes it an ideal nonintrusive allround camera. Its hard to believe, but this camera rivals image quality of much larger full frame DSLRs.
Using all 3 cameras with different primes also gives me a very flexible setup for wedding photography, and they come across as very non-scary cameras when doing childrens photography.
