Matt is a black and white Street and Event Photographer based in Liverpool.
His journey through photography has spanned over 40 years mostly using film. He still shoots film, but most recently he prefers the freedom and flexibility of the digital medium striving to retain the integrity of the original image.
Annual projects have helped Matt to focus on his personal development within the industry constantly challenging his own ideas and concepts and motivating him to learn new skills.
In 2013 his Year of Black and white project was a changing point for his workflow and he decided to change to the Fuji X System.
Matt is passionate about Street Photography, he has developed the skill to observe and be virtually invisible, letting the world carry on around him without affecting the scene. The subject is unaware. Matt keeps the system and process as simple as possible so as not to over complicate the task. This is why he has chosen the Fuji X system for his professional work which helps him to achieve his style.
Matt’s images have been used in advertising all over the world, his work has been published in many books and photography magazines.
Matt runs Street Photography workshops and courses for himself and Photographic Retailers around all major cities in the UK and abroad passing on his techniques and passion for Street Photography.
Matt is the founder of Fujiholics, a company that runs free and paid Photography workshops using Professional Photographers to pass on their vast amount of knowledge and skills to the workshop attendees
I started using the X Series with the X100 and in 2013 I changed the way I think about photography. The X series gave me my passion for photography again. Shooting Street with the XPro1 ,I became invisible to my subjects. I could move more freely, walk further and capture so much more without being burdened by heavy DSLR's and lenses. Suddenly I was in love with photography again. The camera became a part of me; I could forget about the camera and just concentrate on being a photographer. It's almost like using an invisible camera. I now use the XT1 for all my event work; I can shoot all day and into the night now without my camera wearing me out. I use my XT10 for teaching my Street Workshops and my XPro2 is my own personal Street Photography camera. My favorite lenses for Street Photography are the 27mm and the 35mm f/2 the 90mm f/2 is my favorite event lens.
