Dan Westergren (USA)

Dan Westergren has spent most of the past three decades producing award-winning images as a freelance photographer and former DOP at National Geographic Traveler.
At National Geographic Traveler, he developed a photographic aesthetic that defined the magazine’s visual impact in print, digital and social media. As a photographer, he has shot stories on all seven continents, including expeditions up Mt Kilimanjaro, Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn, and skiing to the North Pole.
Now he is a freelance photographer and producer, creating photographs, videos and marketing plans for clients including National Geographic and Travel + Leisure. In his images he strives to capture the essence of Place, searching for the ways that people interact with the world around them. His tools are light, location, and moment, creating a tension between these elements within the frame.
Dan also leads numerous photo workshops, sharing his love of photography with travelers in all corners of the globe.

TESTIMONIAL

I have always been a fan of using small, unobtrusive cameras in my photographic work. When the photo world switched to digital photography, my quest to replace small film cameras became very difficult and I resigned myself to carrying huge cameras around the world to do my work. FUJIFILM X series of cameras has changed my thinking and once again I can carry less and move faster with these amazing small cameras. At first I used the FUJIFILM X-Pro1 as a secondary camera carried alongside my DSLR kit. Now, with a couple X-T2’s and a few lenses I have everything I need to capture the ever changing moments I seek out around the world. Recently, I’ve also been using the FUJIFILM GFX with one or two lenses. Although the camera is slightly bigger, the image quality is huge.
