His great passion for photography has made him one of the leading photographers on the international scene. At just 27 years of age, this Spanish artist has won some of the world’s most prestigious photography competitions and been awarded on four continents. He is currently the only photographer in the world to have been simultaneously recognised as Photographer of the Year by Professional Photographers of America, Wedding and Portrait Photographers International and the Master Photography Association.
In 2011 the international association MPA, headquartered out of the United Kingdom, voted him International Photographer of the Year, one of the most important titles in the photography industry. He also took home four major prizes in Newcastle (UK) for the quality of his work at the MPA event known in the industry as the “photo Oscars”: European Portfolio of the Year, Overseas Commercial Photographer of the Year, Overseas Wedding Photographer of the Year and Overseas Best Image of the Year. Other prizes he has won from the MPA include Landscape and Travel Photographer of the Year and Contemporary Wedding Photographer of the Year.
In the US, Jose Luis was voted Photographer of the Year by WPPI in recognition of his impressive international career. He has also won numerous first places both in Wedding and Architecture photography at the 16x20 Print Competition in Las Vegas and the International Photographic Competition in Los Angeles.
In 2013, in Atlanta, the PPA, the national photography association of the United States, gave him its maximum recognition, the Diamond Medal, when he was voted Diamond Photographer of the Year.
In 2012, he won the Canon AIPP Australian Professional Photography Award, the country’s national prize, organised by the Australian Institute of Professional Photography, where he also picked up the trophy for Highest Scoring Monochrome Print of the Year and received the association’s highest award, the Gold Medal with Distinction, in Brisbane.
Jose Luis has won Spain’s prestigious National Photography Prize (LUX) on various occasions, taking home the LUX GOLD for “Landscape and Nature” and the LUX SILVER for “Architecture” in 2011. In 2012 he again won the LUX GOLD for “Architecture” and in 2013 the LUX BRONZE for “Architecture and Interior Design”.
He has won the Fiof Professional Award of Orvieto (Italy) twice in a row, being proclaimed overall winner in Wedding Photography in 2011 and following it up the next year with the prize for best Commercial Photographer. He has also won the Fiof Gold for his images three years a row, and repeated this feat with the European Photographers’ Federation, where he has also won the Gold Prize three times and was awarded the European Commercial Bronze Camera award in 2011.
At the National Photography Awards of Ireland (IPPA National Awards 2012), he won Best International Bridal Portfolio and numerous Diamond and Gold Awards for Architecture and Wedding photography. He also won the Silver Prize in Architecture from the British Institute of Professional Photography at the national awards in the UK in 2012.
He has achieved major international renown in diverse categories as a prize-winner, such as the second place in Weddings he picked up at the 2011 Grand Imaging Awards (the national prize of the US) and as one of the top 10 commercial photographers in 2012, awarded by PPA. In the same category, the International Aperture Award of Australia awarded him its Gold Prize in 2011. He also won the International Photography Award of New York, coming second in the Wedding Photography category. The American association ISPWP accorded him one of the top five positions in its Wedding Photojournalism Top 10 ranking.
