Sean McCormack

I’m Sean McCormack, a Galway based photographer, with an interest in photographing people and places. The main focus of my work is People photography and I’m really experienced with studio and natural light. Lots of people like that work. I also write books and magazine articles on Lightroom and lighting. They get a good response.. fortunately.

Work leads you on various different paths, so of late I’ve been shooting for Nightclubs (Carbon) and Property (for Airbnb as a verified photographer) as well as doing Headshots, and Model portfolios. The property work might seem like a big departure, but a lot of the skills carry over from shooting people to lighting places and I’ve become quite experienced at it.

I’ve been shooting for 15 years now, beginning right at the start of Digital photography as we know it, but I did start with a film SLR. That doesn’t mean much, it’s just where I began. I’d truly love to learn how to do tintypes though.

I won the SWPP Family Portraiture and Groups Photographer of the year 2008 Award for a band image I quite like. I was nominated for Glamour and Beauty photographer of the year for 2011. in 2014 I was nominated for Studio Portraiture Photographer of the year. Winning is great, but getting nominated means you’re still in the top 4 in a worldwide organisation, and that’s something to be proud of. I just got news that I've been nominated again for the 2016 awards next month!

Originally I bought the X-Pro1 to replace a travel camera from a different maker. The main reason was simply Image Quality. The X-Pro1 was hands down far better looking IQ. Starting with just the 18mm and the 35mm lenses, I shot a lot of personal work on it, and while I liked it, I didn't have enough gear to use it as a main system. When the X-T1 came along, I was very interested, but still wasn't ready to make a move. With the keen pricing of the X-T10, I ordered the day it was announced from my local camera shop. I fell in love with it straight away, so much so that I've expanded my lens arsenal and use it for over 90% of my work. The quality of the lenses are superb. The 50-140, despite the size is just incredible. I use Lightroom, which is very average with Fuji files, but the sharpness of this lens even wide open can overcome that. The shots are just gorgeous. I've done band work, TV work and even magazine work with the camera. I'm utterly delighted with it. I know the system will progress further and I look forward to using it exclusively. Prior to going with the X System, I’d already had experience with Fuji cameras, from the humble F10, to the F5200. Not to mention that I have a Fujifilm Instax 80 and 210!
